The Role

Capco is looking for a Senior Java Developer to join a major technology modernization initiative focused on upgrading business-critical legacy applications and their supporting technology.

This is a hands-on back-end engineering role for someone with deep Java experience who enjoys solving the challenges that come with modernizing established platforms. You’ll help refactor and migrate legacy Java 6/8, JBoss and Struts applications towards modern Java frameworks and deployment environments, including JDK 17, Spring Boot, OpenShift, Kubernetes and AWS.

You’ll work across the full development lifecycle, helping ensure applications remain secure, reliable and fully functional throughout the modernization journey.

What You’ll Do

  • Modernize and refactor legacy Java 6/8, JBoss and Struts applications, supporting migration to JDK 17, Spring Boot and newer JBoss EAP environments.
  • Design, develop and enhance Java back-end services while contributing to TypeScript components and modern microservices-based architectures.
  • Containerize and deploy applications using Docker, OpenShift and Kubernetes, with deployment into AWS environments including ECS/EKS.
  • Integrate applications with enterprise authentication and SSO solutions such as Okta, including implementations using Spring SAML.
  • Deliver across the Agile software development lifecycle, from technical design and development through testing, CI/CD, deployment and production release.

What We’re Looking For

  • 8+ years of Java development experience with extensive back-end expertise across Java/J2EE, including Core Java, multi-threading, Collections, JDBC, Maven and Ant.
  • Demonstrated experience upgrading and refactoring legacy Java applications, particularly Java 6/8, JBoss and Struts environments, with experience of Spring Boot and modern Java/JDK versions.
  • Hands-on experience with TypeScript and containerized application environments using Docker, OpenShift and Kubernetes, alongside AWS and DevOps practices.
  • Experience with relational databases including Oracle, MS SQL Server and DB2, including T-SQL, stored procedures and jobs, plus experience across Linux, Unix and Windows environments.
  • Experience delivering software using Agile practices and modern CI/CD tooling, including Git, Bitbucket, Jenkins and JIRA.

Bonus Points For

  • Experience with J2EE technologies including EJBs (Session, Entity and Message Driven Beans), JTA, Filters and Servlets.
  • Experience with PostgreSQL.
  • Experience modernizing Unix scripts and associated application dependencies as part of wider platform modernization.
  • Experience developing software for financial services, financial markets or accounting platforms.
  • Experience delivering complex application migrations while maintaining application stability and continuity.

Why Join Capco

  • Deliver high-impact technology solutions for Tier 1 financial institutions.
  • Work in a collaborative, flat, and entrepreneurial consulting culture.
