Work Arrangement:
This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Markham Elevation Centre (MEC) or Oshawa Elevation Centre (OEC) three times per week, at minimum.
Relocation:
This job is not eligible for relocation benefits. Any relocation costs would be the responsibility of the selected candidate.
The Role
The Vehicle Mechatronic Embedded Controls (VMEC) Body Controls Vision and Visibility ART (Agile Release Train) has an opening for a Scrum Manager on the Exterior Lighting team. The VMEC Body Controls team develops some of General Motors' most customer-facing features, which are used across our portfolio of electric, internal combustion and autonomous vehicles. Specifically, the Exterior Lighting scrum team develops and maintains the software for all vehicle exterior lighting.
We are seeking creative, highly motivated, agile thinkers with passion and expertise in Controls and Software, and great attention to detail. The selected candidate will lead the development of exterior lighting software, including serial activation, to keep General Motors at the forefront of technology in these areas. In the role of Scrum Manager, you will be collaborating with several other areas of engineering and the business (Engineering Stakeholders, Customers and the Product Management Team) to breakdown technical solutions into workable and deliverable chunks. This role requires the highest level of leadership and technical background.
What You'll Do
As a Scrum Manager in VMEC, your main responsibilities will be:
- Perform as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Scrum Team's content
- Collaborate with stakeholders to gather feedback and ensure alignment with business goals and customer needs.
- Collaborate with System Architects/Engineers and Technical Specialists to determine enablers and coordinate enabler rollout
- Coordinate dependencies with other Scrum Managers when deliverables are dependent on other teams for completion, attending SM synchronizations as needed
- Maintain and prioritize the scrum team's product backlog, ensuring that it is visible, transparent, and understood by the team.
- Work closely with Scrum Team Leader to ascertain team capacity
- Translate product and feature strategy into user stories. Provide clear and concise story descriptions and acceptance criteria for user stories to ensure the team understands the requirements and expectations
- Work day-to-day with the scrum teams clarifying requirements, constantly communicating and gaining alignment around feature or product strategy
- Provide clearly defined acceptance criteria to enable Behavior-Driven Development (BDD) and Test-Driven Development (TDD)
- Provide guidance for system demonstration strategy during story creation (unit, integration and system level test strategy)
- Verify stories are testable and can be used to generate testing objectives
- Ensure validation and testing of features occurs prior to End User Acceptance
- Ensure the technical integrity of the product is maintained and enable the solution to address program priorities (Features and Enablers), thoroughly addressing anomalies and other quality concerns in a timely manner
- Accept each story and participate in team demonstrations and retrospectives to validate quality, providing feedback to team and improving team processes
- Validate that stories meet their pre-determined acceptance criteria, have appropriate, persistent acceptance tests, and otherwise comply with Definition of Done (DoD)
- Participate in the following team and program events: Program Increment Planning, Iteration Retrospectives, ART Inspection and Adapt sessions, SM/ART Synchronizations
- Provide guidance and coaching to scrum team members
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Additional Description
Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Computer, Software, Mechanical or related engineering discipline
- Minimum 5 years of experience with proven technical and professional skills in job-related area required
- Ability to set and balance priorities efficiently
- Strong ability to function within the ART and drive change.
- Scaled Agile or Agile Software Development experience
- Understanding of GM Vehicle Development Process
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex projects and assignments with autonomy and accountability for results
- Proficient oral and written communication skills
- Outstanding interpersonal and relationship management skills to effectively collaborate with varying levels of the organization as needed
- Strong partnership and teamwork skills, with demonstrated ability to learn from and share knowledge with co-workers in a fast-paced environment
- High level of integrity, ability to deal with ambiguity, take initiative/self-directed
- Evidence of strong character with integrity, honesty, accountability and trust
- Consistent demonstration of innovative thinking that is customer-centric
- In-depth knowledge of algorithm/software development and calibration of vehicle motion controls
- Strong understanding of major automotive systems
- Knowledge and experience with C, C++
- Must be legally allowed to work in Canada and able to travel to the US
What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
- Experience with Exterior Lighting and/or embedded digital design
- Experience in plant modeling and analysis tools, MIL, SIL, HIL Testing
- Demonstrated strong development expertise in applying the dynamic system modeling principles and control theories
- Knowledge and experience with CAN, LIN, or Ethernet communications protocol
- Experience with JIRA and Git EcoSystem
- DFSS Black Belt
- Valid Canadian driver's license
