Hopper Technology Solutions (HTS) Checkout combines market-leading payment services and best-in-class fraud detection to enhance the travel experience for users and drive revenue for partners. Our hosted checkout solution offers global coverage and currency support, a comprehensive suite of payment methods and an industry-leading anti-fraud technology.

We are seeking a senior backend software engineer with experience building scalable and robust systems to join our team. As part of a cross-functional team of exceptional engineers and product managers, you will develop new features and provide best-in-class support to help our partners scale their businesses.

Tech stack:

  • Our backend systems are written in Scala, and we use a suite of GCP services with extensive use of GKE, Pub/Sub, BigQuery, and Spanner

  • Containerized microservices architecture with over 200+ services running primarily in Google Cloud Kubernetes

  • We are heavily data-driven, making extensive use of tools like Amplitude, BigQuery, and Datadog

What would your day-to-day look like

  • Design, build and review code for our fraud and abuse backend platform

  • Iterate on features using Scala (no prior experience required) and technologies within GCP

  • Ship your first code in days, iterating on features in an agile manner

  • Operate autonomously but work closely with engineers and PMs to ensure high alignment

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with the product team and other Hopper teams

  • We operate with few meetings and emphasize strong alignment and asynchronous decision making

An ideal candidate has

  • 4+ years of experience building scalable backend systems

  • A strong understanding of distributed systems and how architectural decisions affect performance and maintainability

  • The ability to work with minimal guidance, be proactive and to handle uncertainty, ambiguity and the challenge of quickly evolving goals

  • Excelled in cross-functional teams, working fluidly with Product Managers, Data Scientists, Frontend Engineers, and other highly skilled specialists

  • Prior experience in the payments and fraud space a plus
