How You Will Contribute:


Today’s Optical Networks are complex systems requiring sophisticated simulations modeling tools to allow planning and simulations. Part of the required modeling consists of determining the expected optical performance provided by the Optical Network as well as the impairments observed by optical channels during their propagation. The Ciena Optical Network Planning Tools Link Engineering and Algorithms Design team, part of Ciena's R&D Systems Design Architecture and Engineering organization, is the team responsible of defining Ciena’s Optical Planning Tools Link Engineering and algorithms requirements. Leveraging Physics, Mathematics, Algorithms science, knowledge of the various Ciena’s products, from modems transmission modes to photonics functionalities, from local control loops to network wide Control Planes, the team get involves with all aspects and layers of Ciena’s product.


As Senior Manager of the Optical Network Planning Tools Link Engineering and Algorithms Design team, you will lead, inspire, and mentor a world-class business critical team and actively participate in the evolution of Ciena success. You will be responsible of managing the resources of the team, evaluate in priorities assessment, assemble and track project schedules.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the team responsible for understanding how the various layer 0 Ciena’s products operates, translate their behavior into mathematical, physics models and algorithms, ensure proper implementation by the development teams and evaluate, test and characterize the planning tools to confirm quality.
  • Leverage technical expertise in advising PLM and Accounts on Optical Link viability and participate in risk evaluation to reach decision.
  • Participate in early optical performance evaluation during product development cycles
  • Establish and maintain relationships with key business and technology stakeholders, including external stakeholders to product success.

General Activities:

  • Management of human resources of a business critical and highly skilled team
  • Manage, track, prioritize, measure and report on features development
  • Identify gaps and opportunities where development of tools could optimize productivity of the various tool users as well as developers and testers.
  • Work closely with all Products development teams to stay connected on latest performance impacting developments
  • Work closely with PLM and Accounts team to understand business priorities and strategies
  • Work closely with Products development teams to assess optical performance impact of design trade-offs and decision throughout the complete product development cycle.
  • Exercise technical expertise and communication skills to recommend and participate in the decision-making process around link budget viability

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Physics (or Applied Physics), Electrical Engineering, Computer Science
  • Deep knowledge of Optical Link budget assessment and noise calculations
  • Experience in Software development processes
  • Experience in Network Planning
  • Knowledge of Ciena’s Layer 0 Products
  • Decision making skills capability demonstrated by experience
  • Deep understanding of Optical Networking market (Edge, Metro, Long Haul, Submarine)
  • Strong commitment to product excellence and quality
  • Good Communication skills with strong analytical abilities
  • Excellent team worker with strong interpersonal skills
