Job Summary

The Technology Research Analyst supports NAV CANADA’s Technology Research function by conducting research, scanning, and analysis across emerging and evolving technology areas relevant to the organization. The position helps identify technology trends, opportunities, risks, dependencies, and potential business impacts by gathering information from internal stakeholders, external sources, industry activity, standards, regulations, vendors, and other information sources. The Technology Research Analyst translates findings into clear insights, dashboards, briefs, reports, and presentation materials to support technology planning, strategy, enterprise architecture, and evidence-based decision-making. The role also contributes to the ongoing development of research processes, dashboards, knowledge repositories, reporting practices, and external research coordination activities.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Perform technology research, scanning, and analysis across emerging and evolving technology areas relevant to NAV CANADA, including assessing relevance, opportunities, risks, and potential business impacts.
  • Collaborate with business sponsors and internal stakeholders to gather and validate input, understand business needs, and translate findings into useful insights.
  • Monitor external developments, including industry trends, peer activity, standards, regulations, vendor activity and research initiatives.
  • Prepare concise research summaries, briefs, dashboards, and presentation materials to support awareness and decision making.
  • Create, update, and maintain dashboards, data models, and reporting tools to support analysis and visualization of technology research insights.
  • Maintain structured research records, source material, topic profiles, technology watch lists, and enterprise architecture records related to technology research.
  • Support continuous improvement of the Technology Research function, including the development and maintenance of processes, templates, knowledge repositories, and reporting practices.
  • Contribute to coordination related to external research partnerships, funding opportunities and industry engagement activities.

Job Requirements

Education:

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in a relevant field such as computer science, information technology, engineering, technology management, or an acceptable combination of education, experience and training.

Experience:

  • 3+ years of experience working in technology-related roles, with exposure to multiple technology domains such as software, data, cloud, cybersecurity, infrastructure or emerging technologies.
  • 2+ years of experience contributing to business cases, strategies, roadmaps, architecture documents, or other decision-support materials.
  • Experience conducting research and analysis, and synthesizing information from multiple sources into clear summaries, insights, or recommendations.
  • Experience preparing briefing materials, reports, dashboards and presentations for different audiences.
  • Experience with PowerBi and Power Apps is considered an asset.

Knowledge :

  • Knowledge of technology trends, emerging technologies, and their potential impacts on business capabilities, operations, risk, and strategy.
  • Knowledge of multiple technology domains and related practices, including areas such as software, data, cloud, cybersecurity, infrastructure, enterprise platforms, operational technology, automation, and emerging technologies.
  • General understanding of research and technology assessment methods, including evidence-based analysis approaches such as cost-benefit analysis, risk analysis and business impact analysis.
  • Knowledge of enterprise architecture principles, practices, and artefacts, and how they can be used to support technology planning and decision-making.
  • Understanding of the factors that influence technology decisions, including operational, safety, security, regulatory, financial, and organizational considerations.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Power BI, Power Apps, Dataverse, SharePoint, or similar data, reporting, and collaboration platforms.
  • Knowledge of aviation, air navigation, or safety-critical operational environments is considered an asset.

  • Ability to translate research findings into practical insights that support technology planning, strategy, and decision-making.
  • Ability to communicate technical and non-technical information clearly, concisely, and accurately.
  • Ability to organize research findings into structured outputs including summaries, dashboards, and reports.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with internal teams and external partners.
  • Ability to ask thoughtful questions, facilitate discussion, validate assumptions, and recognize where further analysis is required.

Working conditions

  • This position is a hybrid position with a minimum – 3 days per week on site at the Ottawa Technical Systems Centre, 280 Hunt Club Road.
