As the fourth-largest urban area in the nation, it’s no surprise that Ottawa is home to some of the largest companies contributing to Canada’s growing economy — and many of them are in the tech sector. In fact, CBRE reported that Ottawa has the highest concentration of tech talent among 50 North American markets, with tech jobs accounting for 13.3 percent of all employment. Here are some to consider.

Largest Companies in Ottawa to Know

Deloitte is an enterprise consulting company, one of the global “Big Four” accounting firms and, by some measures, the largest company in the world. Its employees number over 450,000 and its annual revenue has surpasses US $64 billion in recent years. Deloitte also has global name recognition thanks to its sponsorship of events like the Summer Olympics.  

 

Meta is a technology company that made its name by founding Facebook, one of the first and largest social media platforms. Since its founding, the company has scaled into launching diverse social media platforms, including Instagram, WhatsApp and Threads, which it continues to parent. The company’s market value has been recently projected at US $1.4 trillion.

 

Microsoft develops and markets software, services and hardware. Known for some of the most popular products in the world, the company has expanded to a team of 206,000 since its founding in 1975 and operates from nearly 30 office locations around the world.

 

As the largest technology and consulting employer in the world, IBM helps clients in more than 175 countries harness data insights, streamline operations and reduce expenses. Headquartered in New York, the company operates 40 offices worldwide, connecting a team of over 500,000 members.

 

Based in Ottawa, Canada Post is a Crown corporation that serves as Canada’s postal service and leading e-commerce delivery provider, positioned to reach over 17 million addresses across the country. It also operates the largest retail network in Canada, with nearly 5,900 post offices located in every region.

 

Bloomberg is a media conglomerate and data company. It provides financial news and software products for financial services professionals and organizations. Founded by former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg in 1981, the company now has a presence in more than 175 countries and employs a global team of about 20,000.

 

Airbus is an aerospace and aviation enterprise and the largest aircraft manufacturer in the world. It builds military planes as well as passenger aircraft, including the Airbus A380, which is the biggest passenger plane in existence, seating more than 850 people. Airlines such as Delta, United and Hawaiian Airlines operate fleets of Airbus planes for passenger travel.

 

Founded in 1903, Ford Motor Company is a multinational automotive manufacturer that produces and sells vehicles, provides connected services and develops embedded software. Headquartered in the United States, Ford has additional offices in Melbourne, Australia, and Ottawa, Canada.

 

Global e-commerce platform Shopify offers businesses the tools they need to start, grow, market and manage their retail stores through a unified dashboard. Based in Ottawa, Shopify serves over 1.7 million businesses, including well-known brands like Skims, Penguin Books and Whole Foods Market.

 

Cloud software firm Salesforce provides digital products and managed services in customer relationship management technology. Its CRM platform is the largest in the world, and is supported by its SaaS products for sales, marketing, analytics and other mission-critical business processes. The Fortune 500 company, which had its IPO in 2004, serves enterprise clients including Amazon and Walmart.
