BUSINESS ANALYST MANAGER

TORONTO

Trisura is seeking a Business Analyst Manager to lead and grow our Business Analyst function within the Enterprise PMO. This role is responsible for setting the standard for requirements gathering, documentation, and delivery discipline across our highest priority initiatives, while directly managing the people who do that work.

The position partners closely with Project Managers, Business Technology Leads, and IT leadership to ensure BA capacity is allocated against real priorities and that requirements quality holds steady regardless of who is assigned. This is a player coach role: you will manage a team day to day while staying close enough to the work to step into complex stakeholder situations directly.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & People Management

  • Lead and develop a team of Business Analysts, including workload distribution, coaching, and career growth planning.
  • Conduct formal performance reviews and development conversations, including goal setting, mid year check ins, annual ratings, and documented improvement plans when needed.
  • Own people decisions for the team: hiring, compensation recommendations, promotion cases, and performance management.
  • Identify skill gaps across the team and build training plans, including where BAs need to grow into more technical or more strategic work.

BA Standards & Delivery Oversight

  • Set and enforce consistent BA standards across requirements gathering, documentation, process mapping, and stakeholder facilitation.
  • Review and approve key BA deliverables, business requirements documents, process maps, and acceptance criteria, before they move downstream.
  • Own BA involvement in SDLC and intake processes, ensuring requirements work plugs cleanly into governance and delivery checkpoints.
  • Act as the escalation point when BA work stalls due to unclear ownership, conflicting stakeholder input, or scope ambiguity.
  • Apply process improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, BPM, Value Stream Mapping) to identify inefficiencies and control gaps in BA workflows and deliverables.
  • Support intake, prioritization, and scope definition processes for incoming work.
  • Facilitate executive-level status reporting and decision support on BA work streams.

Cross-Functional Partnership

  • Partner with PMs, BTLs, and IT leadership to ensure BA capacity is allocated against real priorities.
  • Represent the BA function in portfolio and governance discussions, giving leadership honest visibility into capacity, risk, and requirements quality.
  • Stay hands on with complex or politically sensitive initiatives where direct BA involvement is the fastest path to clarity.
  • Partner with Legal, Compliance, and Procurement on vendor and platform governance where BA involvement is required, including evaluating vendor performance and integration effectiveness.

Required Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years in a formal leadership role, with direct accountability for performance management, hiring, and development.
  • 8 or more years of business analysis experience.
  • Experience operating inside a PMO or similar governance structure, with a clear understanding of how BA work connects to intake, SDLC, and delivery.

Core Competencies

  • Proven ability to manage people, not just manage work, including coaching, holding people accountable, delivering a tough rating, and having hard conversations without avoiding them.
  • Strong command of BA fundamentals: requirements elicitation, process mapping, stakeholder facilitation, acceptance criteria, and documentation standards.
  • Comfortable translating between technical teams and business stakeholders without losing accuracy on either side.
  • A bias toward clarity over comfort; you would rather name an ambiguous requirement early than let it surface as a problem in UAT.
  • Working knowledge of process improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, BPM, Value Stream Mapping).
  • Risk management and internal control awareness.

Technical & Systems Skills

  • Experience with Jira, Confluence, or comparable tools for requirements tracking and documentation.
  • Understanding of SDLC and hybrid delivery models.
  • Advanced documentation and process mapping capabilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior work experience in insurance, financial services, or other regulated industries.
  • Professional certifications (PMP, CBAP, Scrum, or equivalent).
  • Familiarity with policy administration, claims, underwriting, or financial reporting systems.
  • Experience supporting internal or external audits.
  • Exposure to automation, RPA, or AI-enabled platforms.

Location:

  • Downtown Toronto – Hybrid

Salary:

  • The maximum potential base salary for this position is $150,000.

This salary range reflects the expected base compensation for the role across Canada. Actual compensation will be determined based on factors such as experience, qualifications, and scope of responsibilities. Trisura provides this range in good faith in accordance with applicable legislation.

This position is for an existing, currently vacant position.
