Job Summary

The NAV CANADA Pension Plan is a defined benefit pension plan with approximately 9000 members and $8 billion in assets invested across the spectrum of asset classes include public and private equity, fixed income, real estate, infrastructure, private debt and hedge funds. We have an exciting new opportunity for an Investment Analyst to join our highly engaged and innovative Pension Investment team. Our team is a small group of professionals who believe in the importance of retirement security and work closely together to ensure the plan is invested appropriately to meet our short- and long-term objectives.
Reporting to the Manager, Pension Investments, the Pension Investment Analyst is actively involved in supporting all aspects of the investment process, portfolio monitoring and risk management for the NAV CANADA Pension Plan (“Plan” or “Fund”). The Pension Investment Analyst collects data, conducts ongoing performance and risk calculations, provides analysis, conducts research, and prepares reports with the objective of supporting the pension investment team’s decision making and monitoring activities. As the position evolves, it will be expected to operate with increasing independence while assuming responsibility for certain aspects of the investment process, such as individual mandate monitoring within assigned asset classes.

In this role, you will:

  • Calculate and reconcile monthly and quarterly investment performance.
  • Prepare quarterly investment analysis and reporting across asset classes, regions, and sectors.
  • Monitor external investment managers through manager meetings and review of periodic reports.
  • Maintain investment databases and reporting, and enhance analytical and monitoring tools.
  • Execute foreign currency spot and forward trades and monitor the Fund’s liquidity and cash position.
  • Support investment due diligence and evaluation, including analysis of valuations, market trends, investment merits, and key risks.
  • Develop and communicate views on financial markets, investment strategies, and key investment risks.
  • Support the development and management of external investment relationships.
  • Stay current on institutional investment best practices and industry developments.
  • Prepare periodic investment reporting for senior management and the Pension Committee.

What you bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Mathematics, Economics, or a related field
  • Enrollment in or demonstrated interest in pursuing the CFA Charterholder Program.
  • Relevant professional experience in investment management; experience in a pension / institutional investment context is considered an asset.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite especially Excel/VB and PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of investment principles, asset allocation and portfolio construction
  • Knowledge of research and data collection techniques, including data validation, verification and analysis
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively leverage AI tools, including large language models (LLMs), to enhance research, analysis, and productivity

Working Conditions:

  • This position is a hybrid position with a minimum 3 days per week on site. 
  • Some travel may be required
