Focus Graphite, an Ottawa-based company developing mineral deposits and battery technology, has gained access to up to $300,000 in non-dilutive funding. The company was accepted into the Intellectual Property Ontario program, a government initiative geared toward helping companies protect and commercialize their IP.

The company specializes in high-grade flake graphite deposits and lithium-ion battery solutions. Through the IPON program, Focus will further its silicon-enhanced spheroidized graphite technology. The company will have access to up to $100,000 per year to cover costs related to patent drafting and prosecution, claim amendments, trademark registration, prior art analysis and commercialization benchmarking. Focus is also working with MBM Intellectual Property Law to expand its international IP footprint.

“Our acceptance into the IPON program and the opportunity for non-dilutive funding comes at a pivotal time for Focus Graphite. This support will help us protect our patents, advance the commercialization of our silicon-enhanced battery technology and strengthen the identity of our growing advanced materials portfolio,” Jason Latkowcer, Focus Graphite’s VP of corporate development, said in a statement. “We continue to prioritize both commercial and defense markets, and our Ottawa headquarters provides direct access to a leading defense innovation community that is driving dual-use technologies.”
